aide - A person who acts as an assitant. (For example, a nurse's aide. Clue: A person.)
aid - Something by which assistance is given.(For example, a band-aid or walking aid. Clue: Inanimate object.)
Still confusing...doesn't an assistant help? Isn't an aid something you use to assist?
